Anki Import
Bring an existing Anki deck into LanguageDen.
What you need
An Anki deck exported as .apkg. In the Anki desktop app, use File → Export and choose "Anki Deck Package (.apkg)". Audio and images are not imported — only text fields.
Upload your deck
- On the Words page, open More → Import words, then choose Anki deck, or go to Import Anki.
- Choose your
.apkgfile. - Click Next: Map fields.
Map fields
Match your Anki fields to LanguageDen columns:
| LanguageDen field | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Word | Yes | The word or phrase in your target language |
| Translation | No | Meaning in your native language |
| Part of speech | No | Map if your deck has this field |
Unmapped fields are stored as metadata on each word. HTML and [sound:…] tags are stripped during import.
Confirm the import
Review the Word / Translation / Part of speech preview. Optionally choose a Source and section name — if you leave Source empty, LanguageDen creates a Source and Section from the deck name. Click Import to add the words.
Imported words enter Word Triage as Needs triage. The original Anki card structure is not preserved — you generate new LanguageDen flashcards from Triage or individually.
Duplicates
Import does not skip duplicates. Every note with a non-blank Word field is inserted, even if the text already exists. Clean duplicates in Anki before exporting if you want a unique list.
