Language Den
Documentation

Privacy & Data

What we store, what leaves our servers, and how to delete your data.

Where your data lives

LanguageDen is a web application. Your words, flashcards, review history, sources, Notebook notes, and Passages are stored on LanguageDen's servers — not on your device. Sign in from any browser to access your collection.

All traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).

Account data

When you create an account, we store:

  • Your email address
  • A hashed password (never stored in plain text)
  • Your subscription status

Google sign-in stores your Google account ID and email — not your Google password.

Vocabulary data

Words, translations, flashcards, reviews, sources, sections, Notebook notes, and Passages are stored on our servers and associated with your account. This data is not sold or shared for advertising.

AI flashcard generation

When you generate flashcards, LanguageDen sends the following to an AI model via OpenRouter:

  • Word text
  • Translation
  • Part of speech
  • Target language

No personally identifiable information is included. The generated flashcard content is stored as part of your account. See the Privacy Policy for full legal wording.

Image search

Image search queries are sent to Unsplash. Selected photos are hotlinked from Unsplash’s CDN; LanguageDen stores the image URL and photographer attribution (not a private copy of the file).

Analytics

LanguageDen shows no ads and does not sell your data. We do not use third-party analytics services such as Google Analytics.

We run first-party product analytics with Ahoy on LanguageDen servers. Tracking is server-side. Ahoy records visits (landing page, referrer, UTM parameters when present, browser and device details, a masked IP address, and your user id after sign-in) plus product events such as registration, onboarding, adding words, completing reviews, and subscription checkout. Data stays in our database for internal dashboards. See the Privacy Policy for the canonical statement.

Cookies and sessions

A session cookie keeps you signed in. Ahoy sets first-party ahoy_visitor and ahoy_visit cookies to recognise returning browsers. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

Export your vocabulary

The file includes text, translation, part of speech, source fields, learning state, and metadata. Leading columns match CSV Import for re-import. Switch study languages before exporting if you need a different collection. For data beyond vocabulary CSV, contact Support.

Delete your account

Delete your account from Profile & Settings → Security. This permanently removes all associated data — words, flashcards, reviews, sources, notes, and Passages. This cannot be undone.

Data retention

We retain data while your account is active. After deletion, associated data is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days. See the Privacy Policy.
